Mumbai Witnesses Emotional Farewell as Leaders and Celebrities Pay Tribute to Legendary Singer
Police officers performed a ceremonial gun salute at the Mumbai residence of legendary singer Asha Bhosle on April 13, 2026. Authorities placed her mortal remains there so the public could pay their last respects.
Officials will conduct her last rites with full State honours at Shivaji Park on Monday afternoon.
Her family placed her body in a glass casket, draped it in the tricolour, and decorated it with white lilies. Police personnel also gave a ceremonial salute to honour her legacy.
Her son Anand said admirers can visit Casa Grande in Lower Parel to pay their respects. After the public viewing, the family will take out a funeral procession from her residence to the Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar. They will perform the last rites at 4 p.m.
Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at a Mumbai hospital. She was 92 and suffered from multi-organ failure. She was the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar.
Over an eight-decade career, she recorded more than 12,500 songs in multiple languages. She lent her voice to leading actresses across generations, including Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Zeenat Aman, Kajol, Urmila Matondkar, as well as South Indian stars like Padmini and Vyjayanthimala.
