Big Political Shock: Raghav Chadha Quits AAP
In a major political development, Raghav Chadha has announced his resignation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Furthermore, he confirmed that he will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
As a result, this announcement has created a major stir in Indian politics. Notably, it is being seen as a significant setback for AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal.
7 AAP MPs Likely to Join BJP
Chadha claimed that nearly two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs are preparing to switch sides. In addition, he named several prominent leaders who may join the BJP.
These include:
- Swati Maliwal
- Harbhajan Singh
- Sandeep Pathak
- Ashok Mittal
- Rajinder Gupta
- Vikram Sahney
Currently, AAP has 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha. Therefore, if this shift happens, it could significantly impact the party’s strength.
Why Raghav Chadha Left AAP
Explaining his decision, Chadha said he had devoted 15 years to the party. However, he believes the party has drifted from its original values.
“The AAP that I gave 15 years of my life to has moved away from honest politics. I am the right man in the wrong party.”
According to him, this move is necessary to reconnect with the public. In fact, he emphasized that his decision is driven by principles rather than politics.
Anti-Defection Law and Merger Strategy
Chadha also addressed the legal aspect of the move. Specifically, he pointed out that under constitutional provisions, at least two-thirds of MPs must support a merger to avoid disqualification.
Meanwhile, a formal letter has already been submitted to Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan.
Otherwise, individual resignation would have led to immediate disqualification under the anti-defection law. Thus, this collective move becomes strategically important.
Internal Tensions Within AAP
This development did not come suddenly. In fact, tensions within AAP have been building for some time.
Earlier, Chadha was removed as deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. Subsequently, Ashok Mittal was appointed in his place.
Moreover, reports suggest ongoing disagreements between Chadha and party leadership on key issues.
AAP Hits Back, Calls It ‘Operation Lotus’
On the other hand, AAP strongly criticized the move. Leader Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of running “Operation Lotus.”
According to him, this is an attempt to weaken the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann.
Additionally, he described it as “cheap politics” aimed at disrupting governance.
What This Means for Indian Politics
Overall, this development could reshape political dynamics in the Rajya Sabha. If confirmed, it will weaken AAP’s national presence.
At the same time, it may strengthen BJP’s position further. Therefore, all eyes are now on upcoming confirmations and reactions.
