Uttarakhand–Haryana Row Sparks Online Outrage; Authorities Appeal for Calm

Uttarakhand–Haryana Tensions Escalate After Viral Videos Trigger Online Outrage

A growing controversy between Uttarakhand and Haryana has sparked concern across social and political circles. Viral videos, boycott calls, and provocative social media posts have increased tensions between people from both states.

The issue started after a group of youths from Haryana allegedly misbehaved with a local woman in Rishikesh. Angry locals reportedly confronted the visitors, leading to violence. During the clash, some tourists allegedly faced assault and vehicle vandalism.

Soon, videos from the incident spread rapidly across social media. The clips intensified public anger and turned the matter into an “Uttarakhand vs Haryana” debate online.

Several influencers from Haryana criticized the assault and accused locals of targeting outsiders. Some social media users even called for a boycott of Uttarakhand tourism. In response, many Uttarakhand residents defended local sentiments and demanded stricter action against tourists who disrespect religious places.

The controversy grew further after more videos surfaced from different pilgrimage areas.

In Badrinath, youths allegedly drank alcohol while sitting on the roof of a moving vehicle. In Dehradun, a drunk man reportedly created chaos on the road and misbehaved with police officers.

Other clips from Kedarnath allegedly showed tourists carrying hookahs. Videos from Haridwar also sparked outrage after some youths behaved inappropriately near the Ganga ghats.

These incidents angered many locals. Residents said such behavior damages the spiritual atmosphere of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, reports from Delhi and nearby regions claimed that a group allegedly confronted an Uttarakhand driver. At the same time, some Haryana-registered vehicles reportedly faced hostility in parts of Uttarakhand.

As tensions increased, political leaders appealed for peace.

Congress MP Satpal Brahmachari urged people not to blame entire states for the actions of a few individuals. He said Uttarakhand and Haryana share strong cultural and emotional ties.

He also spoke with several social media influencers from Haryana and requested them not to spread inflammatory content online.

The MP asked tourists visiting Uttarakhand to respect local traditions, religious beliefs, and public discipline. He warned that alcohol-fueled disorder and indecent behavior hurt local sentiments deeply.

Uttarakhand minister Om Prakash Jamdagni also condemned the growing hostility. He said people should not target vehicles simply because they carry Haryana or Delhi registration numbers.

He added that Uttarakhand welcomes tourists from across the country. However, visitors must respect local laws, faith, and social values. He also criticized the mob assault in Rishikesh and said police should handle such matters legally.

Religious leaders also appealed for unity.

Haridwar priest Ujjwal Pandit reminded people that youths from Uttarakhand and Haryana serve together in the armed forces. He said online hatred harms social harmony and spreads negativity in society.

Dehradun SSP Promendra Dobhal clarified that police take action only against offenders. He stressed that authorities do not target people based on state identity or vehicle registration.

Officials also warned citizens against believing every viral video without verification. According to police, many clips circulate online without full context.

Uttarakhand remains one of India’s biggest religious tourism destinations. Every year, lakhs of pilgrims visit places like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kedarnath, and Badrinath during the Char Dham Yatra season.

Local communities have once again urged visitors to maintain discipline and respect the religious sanctity of these sacred places.

Authorities continue monitoring the situation closely. Leaders from both states have appealed to citizens to avoid spreading hate and maintain peace and brotherhood.
